icon ratcheting metric and sae wrench sets review

Harbor Freight can always be a bit of a mixed bag of tools, but one line they have shines above all others, Icon. Icon is Harbor Freights answer to the tool truck brands, offering excellent quality but at a much better value. Ratcheting wrenches are a must have in any tool kit for working on cars, boats, bikes and more. Lets jump into the review!

First thing stands out to me when I opened up these wrenches is the fantasic plastic storage tray that is included, you can just put these right into an open drawer in your tool chest.

The Icons have an excellent finish that doesn’t slide much in your hands when in use. They feel much higher end in my hand then they appear.

Lining up the Icon with a same size SK and Snap-on wrench (non-ratcheting)

I love the open end of the Snap-on with it’s extra grip, maybe a gen 2 Icon will feature something of the like.

Quick Specs

  • Precision 72 tooth reversible ratcheting mechanism for smooth and powerful operation in tight spaces

  • Precision machined for a perfect fit on all fasteners for maximum torque without slippage

  • Chrome vanadium steel with a high polish finish for corrosion resistance and easy clean up

  • 15° offset box end for knuckle clearance, making it easier to reach around obstructions

  • Precision 12-point box end allows easy fastener engagement without slippage and prevents fastener round-off

  • Balanced handle design provides a comfortable and secure grip

  • Angled open end allows easier work in tight spaces

  • No-Skip sizing, always have the size you need

  • Includes premium storage tray

  • Lifetime Warranty

The ratcheting end of the wrench, being able to reverse it is a life saver that prevents your wrench from getting stuck in a tight place and also allowing you to change direction in the fly, without flipping the wrench over.

At the end of the day, for $169.99 per set, so $340 total, this is a steal for both sets of wrenches from Icon compared to other high end brands, they feel premium, they look premium and they perform like a premium wrench. I can’t recommend these enough!
