Milwakuee M12 Fuel Hacksaw vs Dewalt 12v xtreme reciprocating saw

Fellow writer Zach and myself were wondering…which 12v reciprocating saw was better, the Milwakuee or the Dewalt? So we sat down and decided to run a simple test to see who came out on top.

The test was simple, a 2x4 cut with some light pressure applied by the user to keep it as real world as possible. We used 2ah batteries on both tools and the same fresh Dewalt wood blades.

Cut test times

Lower score is better

The Milwaukee posted the fastest average time from 3 cuts, with a time of 22.02 and the Dewalt averaged a time of 23.72. Very close times indeed. At the end of test, the Milwaukee had 2 out of 4 bars of battery left and the Dewalt had 2 out of 3 bars left.

Indy’s Thoughts

Just like Zach I too have owned both tools and the Dewalt to me seems to have a higher blade speed but less power in the cut over the Milwakuee. The Milwakuee has a better grip zone on the top of the tool for pushing it down in longer cuts. However I agree with Zach in the fact that the Milwakuee’s grip zone is to large since the battery goes into the handle.

My vote goes to the Dewalt because I much prefer the more compact design of the Dewalt and the slide packs, plus the cheaper price of the Dewalt is a win.

Zach’s Thoughts

During the testing, I thought the Milwaukee was decently powerful while cutting. Compared to the Dewalt it’s more top heavy, definitely a powerful compact hacksaw. As far as the Dewalt goes, I like that it’s lighter and more balanced for overhead cuts than the Milwaukee.

As for the battery backs, I like the Dewalt better because the slide packs are more compact and it’s a better feel in the hand because the battery is not in the handle like Milwaukee. For doing lots of cuts, the Dewalt has my vote.

I own both and I prefer the Milwaukee slightly more because it’s just a faster cut.
